Bollywood's hottest couple finally entered into matrimony on 16 October after five long years of being in a relationship
The wedding was a simple affair that was flagged off at Saif (42) & Kareena`s (32) new residence - Satguru Sharan, in suburban Bandra on 16 October followed by a registered marriage on 17th. They had a simple celebration but the post-wedding functions at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, Mumbai saw a host of B-town celebs like Shah Rukh Khan with wife Gauri, Priety Zinta, Karan Johar, Tusshar Kapoor, Salman Khan`s sister Alvira and Anil Kapoor with daughter Sonam to name a few. There were about 80-100 guests at the ceremony, including Ratan Tata. For the registry marriage Karisma Kapoor, parents Randhir Kapoor and Babita and Saif's mother Sharmila Tagore were present as witnesses. Saif was seen wearing a simple grey kurta with white pyjama, while Kareena wore a green and red salwar kurta teamed with red bangles to complete the Indian look.
The couple had their nikaah ceremony at the Taj Mahal Palace the same evening, where they just exchanged vows. "There were no `saath pheras'. They did not adhere to any particular style (of wedding)," says fashion designer Manish Malhotra, who's very close to the Kapoor family. He further added, "Kareena wore Saif`s grandmother`s traditional gharara for the ceremony last night. Saif's mother Sharmila Tagore had worn the same gharara for her own nikaah." It was Delhi-based designer Ritu Kumar who worked on the gharara and gave it a whole new look. "I worked on the antique Pataudi gharara that was restored by Ritu Kumar for Kareena`s wedding. We did the final fittings and added a bit of touch of embroidery here and there," Malhotra said.
After the nikaah ceremony, Kareena changed into a Malhotra creation for the post-wedding party. "Kareena wore a burgundy shade embellished gharara with maroon duppatta. I gave a very old world charm to all the ghararas," says Malhotra. On the other hand, Saif donned a Banarsi brocade `achkan` by designer Raghvendra Rathore. The couple is said to have a Christina wedding soon, as Kareena's mother Babita follows Christianity and so the couple have decided to go ahead with this ritual too. Here's wishing the newly-weds a very Happy Married Life!
